The main purpose of this book is to produce a fully comprehensive textbook of the whole subject of kidney cancer, providing theoretical and practical knowledge for both the basic researcher and also the clinical practitioner. In this way, the hope is to produce the definitive text in the field, wherein the theoretical basis of molecular, genetic, and patho-physiologic aspects will precede the practical aspects of surgical and medical-oncologic therapy. Unquestionably, at the time of writing, the contemporary management of kidney cancer is a hot topic in urologic oncology and it is this constantly evolving landscape which is the primary driving force underpinning the writing of this project now.

Contemporary clinical management of patients with kidney cancer requires a clear understanding of these newly-emerged issues. Urologists, medical oncologists, and general practitioners are likely to welcome a comprehensive textbook that places the state-of-the-art of this field in context, within one volume. Ultimately, the book will be along the lines of Campbell’s Urology, aka "the Bible of Urology," which is still relevant decades after its original publication.

Furthermore, the book will be innovatively designed and arranged, using many colour illustrations and figures to augment the text of each chapter, thus providing a less daunting and more readable work. Similarly, the intended format is such that all key points in the text will be highlighted in the left-hand column of each page, for ease of topic summary and overview. In conjunction with the range of highlighted phrases and bulleted tables accompanying every chapter, the general presentation will constantly assist the reader in quickly recognising the salient points of each specific topic at hand.
